Restoration work on the historic Government House is nearing completion, with officials expecting the building to reopen early next year.
Director of Historic Preservation Dr. Gabriella Howell shared the update during a tour of the site with Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, confirming that the main house interior should be finished by early January.
The restoration project—launched in 2016 by Prince Harry—aims to modernize the operational government residence while creating new public spaces.
Government House, which has housed the nation’s head of state since the late 18th century, will soon feature an art gallery, classrooms for students, a café, a bookshop, a living museum, and a therapeutic garden program.
A new public area is scheduled to open in April 2026.
