Cipriani College of Labour and Cooperative Studies, Trinidad and Tobago – December 7th 2025…. The Antigua Trades and Labour Union is proud to announce that its President Bernard de Nully, has been elected as a Council Member of the General Council for the Caribbean Congress of Labour (CCL).

This election marks a significant milestone for the AT&LU, following a prolonged hiatus from regional representation at CCL.

The recent election highlights the imperative of enhancing the AT&LU’s influence on the regional stage.  In addition to President DeNully’s election Kem Riley, President of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU) has been elected as the 3rd Vice President. Janela Evanson, General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Public Service Association (ABPSA) has also secured a position as a Council Member.

The Caribbean Congress of Labour Conference held in Trinidad and Tobago featured President Bernard de Nully as a distinguished panel speaker, emphasizing the union’s commitment to upholding global labour standards and practices. His participation underscored the vital role that worker organizations play in shaping policies and addressing key issues within the Caribbean labour landscape, consistent with the principles set forth by the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The AT&LU delegation which included 1st Vice President Lisa-Ann Yearwood, and Executive Member Jaquis Browne presented a unified front dedicated to advocating for workers’ rights and improving labour standards within the region.

The Antigua Trades & Labour remains steadfast to its commitment in strengthening partnerships throughout the region and elevating the voices of Antiguan and Barbudan workers on international platforms.

According to President de Nully “Strengthening the solidarity of trade unions locally is essential for sustaining our efforts on the regional and international stages.  We must embrace the value of trade unionism, halt any counter-productive undermining of our institutions, and work collectively to advocate for workers’ rights, aligning with the Decent Work Agenda (DWA) of the ILO and the mission and objectives of CCL at CARICOM level.   Through our tripartite consultations we aim to be the vanguards of workers’ rights throughout the working class of Antigua and Barbuda.  Unity among trade unions and camaraderie is the key to ensuring sustainability for future generations.”
