YASCO bathroom now projected for early 2026 completion

Progress on the long-delayed bathroom facility at the YASCO Sports Complex remains slow, months after Cabinet announced in May that it would move to complete the structure.

Government had projected completion by the end of 2025, but that target has now shifted to early 2026, with uncertainty still surrounding a firm deadline.

During a visit to the country’s only track and field venue, Observer Media found the building partially advanced, with rafters installed and some plumbing completed. National coach and former athlete Teddy Daley said workers indicated the project could be finished by January.

“They told us it should be completed by January, which would be ideal for our Christmas training camp since it includes showers,” Daley said. “The pace is slow, but we’re encouraged because we’re seeing more progress now than in the last decade.”

The structure—started over 15 years ago under the former UPP administration—remained abandoned for years and overrun by bushes before work resumed. Sports Minister Daryll Matthew estimated in May that completing the project would cost around EC$350,000.

National Housing is overseeing the work, though on-site sources said delays in materials continue to affect consistency.
