Antigua PM vows crackdown on corruption, warns even major donors at risk

October 17, 2025
in News, Sport

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has warned that his government will no longer tolerate corruption, even if it involves powerful business backers.

Speaking in Parliament’s Lower House on Thursday, Browne said his administration is adopting a zero-tolerance approach toward malfeasance in state agencies and revenue departments.

“Many of these individuals are among the largest campaign contributors, but we are prepared to sacrifice them if necessary,” he told lawmakers.

He stressed that protecting public revenue and ensuring it benefits the population is a top priority, signalling a crackdown on under-the-table deals and revenue leakage that have affected past administrations.

“The time for leniency is over,” Browne said, promising decisive action to restore public confidence and ensure government funds serve the national interest.
