Cxc Declares Equity New

The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) is repositioning itself as a more activist organisation, committing to deeper engagement with its stakeholder base and placing equity at the centre of its mandate — with a clear message that brilliance in the Caribbean takes many forms and that every learner deserves a chance to shine.

Registrar and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Wayne Wesley used a recent press conference to outline what he described as a fundamental shift in how CXC sees its role and its relationship with the students it serves.

“CXC will become more active in listening and interacting with our large stakeholder base to better understand their frustrations, unmet needs of concerns with our products and services, especially among the youth demographic of student candidates,” Dr Wesley said.

He said the organisation is not simply talking about change — it is modelling it, particularly in how it engages with the generation that now makes up the overwhelming majority of its candidates.

“We are indeed practicing what we preach here at CXC – our duty of care in the prevailing digital environment where CXC’s overwhelming majority of Gen Z’s and Alpha stakeholders spend a lot of their time. CXC intends to be more agile in the space, presenting our products and services in more engaging ways as we facilitate and celebrate the achievements of the Caribbean learners who sit our examinations and benefit from our services,” Dr Wesley said.

At the heart of the shift, he noted, is a reimagining of what excellence means and who it belongs to.

“Our activist message is clear; equity is the new excellence. Every Caribbean learner deserves a chance to shine. CXC recognizes that brilliance comes in many forms. We recognize creativity, resilience and real-world skills, not just examinations scores,” the CXC CEO declared.

Dr Wesley closed with a direct and personal message aimed at students across the region— making clear that CXC is committed to their futures.

“To every student, every learner in and out of school, we see you, we hear you and whether you are a coder, creator, a problem solver, a dreamer, in school or out of school, your talents matter. This isn’t just about being the best in the class, it is about being your best self. CXC is your path to purpose,” he said.
