Alex Browne – The Senate welcomed its newest member yesterday as Alex Browne was officially sworn in during the sitting of the Upper House.

Browne took the oath of allegiance before the President of the Senate, pledging his commitment to the state and its constitution.
“I, Alex Browne, swear by almighty God that I will faithfully pay true allegiance to the state of Antigua and Barbuda, its constitution and laws; so help me God,” Browne declared during the proceedings.
He was then congratulated by both sides of the Senate.
Browne had resigned as a Senator, in order to contest the St Philip’s North by-election on March 16th. That poll, in which he was defeated by ABLP’s Randy Baltimore, was as a result of the February 18th resignation of Sir Robin Yearwood, who held the seat for 50 years. During Yearwood’s final term in the Lower House, he served as Deputy Speaker.
The swearing-in of Senator Browne was followed by the Senate’s consideration of the Festivals Commission Amendment Bill and Special Economic Zone (Amendment) Bill 2026.
