UPP promises pension review as elderly feel the squeeze

The United Progressive Party has zeroed in on one of the hardest realities facing many households — the growing squeeze on pensioners and vulnerable families whose money is not stretching as far as it once did.

Upp Promises Pension Review

In its 2026 manifesto, the party says it would introduce an annual pension review pegged to inflation, review and increase the People’s Benefit Card, and create a Maintenance of Minors fund.

The UPP’s manifesto makes clear that social support is one of the areas it wants to move on early.

For many elderly people and low-income families, the pressure is real. It is felt in high weekly food bills, rising medication costs, transport fares, utility payments, and the constant struggle to make fixed incomes stretch to cover increasing expenses.

According to the manifesto, the pension review and benefit changes form part of a wider package of social measures the party says would begin within its first 100 days in office. The document states that all 15 manifesto pillars would be underway within that period, with pensions and benefits review listed among the early actions.
