Man Gets Months Sexually
A man who used social media to befriend a 13-year-old girl before sexually abusing her on two separate occasions, has been sentenced to 38 months in prison.
The man, who was 25 years old at the time of the offences, made contact with the child in early 2022 through a social media platform. The duo communicated for a period of time during which the child disclosed that she was 13 years old and he told her he was 25.
However, despite being fully aware of her age, he arranged to meet her.
In April 2022, the two met in bushes near her home where he had sexual intercourse with her. A second act was committed in July of that same year.
The offences came to light in November 2022 when a report was made to police and an investigation was launched.
The man’s trial commenced in January this year. However, just two days into the proceedings, he changed his plea to guilty after a bid to have his confession ruled inadmissible by the court failed.
He appeared for sentencing on Wednesday and was ordered to serve 38 months in prison.
The identity of the victim is being withheld due to the nature of the matter and her age at the time of the offences.
The convict’s name has also been withheld due to pending matters before the court.
