Cop Applauds Teams After
Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers highly commended the members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and the K-9 unit, following a bomb scare at Police Headquarters on American Road.
The Commissioner said the response by both specialist units demonstrated the kind of courage that cannot be measured in monetary terms.
“There is no amount of money that you can pay a human to put his or her life at risk — and that is what we do every day,” Commissioner Jeffers said.
He noted that the two units operated independently during the incident and that the nature of their work — particularly when a bomb threat is involved — places them in a category of service that warrants special recognition.
“I think that the team should be commended for the excellent work they did,” he added.
The Commissioner reserved particular praise for the K-9 unit’s unique role in responding to reported explosive threats. He noted that while the public looked on from a distance, these officers moved toward the danger.
“While most of the other persons were outside watching, you were on the job,” Commissioner Jeffers said, addressing the teams directly.
In a message to the men, women and canine officers of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, Commissioner Jeffers framed their service not as a single act of bravery, but as a pattern of dedication.
“I want to thank the members of the EOD team and the canine unit for their bravery, their enthusiasm, and diligence as it pertains to duty — not just yesterday, but each time there’s a bomb threat here in Antigua and Barbuda,” he said.
