Restaurant Week – By Jeressa Jeremy
Restaurant Week Stands Alone
Restaurant Week and Culinary Month will be hosted two separate events this year. Special Projects and Events Manager Shermain Jeremy of the Antigua and Barbuda Hotel and Tourism Authority (ABHTA) said feedback from partners and patrons influenced the decision.
“Usually, we combine them. But this year, we’ve decided, you know what, let’s keep Restaurant Week as it normally is at the beginning of the month,” Jeremy said.
She explained that the change was made to allow patrons more time to enjoy the different offerings without feeling like they had to choose between overlapping events.
This year’s Restaurant Week which started on May 3rd, has seen good participation.
She added that prefix menus run from 25 to 75 US dollars.
“So I really encourage visitors and locals alike to really explore the restaurants that are participating with us this year,” the ABTA official said.
Culinary Month, Jeremy added, will still feature a packed calendar of curated events.
Another change this year is a stronger focus on international marketing and promoting Antigua and Barbuda as a culinary destination overseas. FabFest, the marquee event, has been moved to the weekend of the 23rd and is being featured as a Memorial Day weekend culinary getaway for the US market.
“What we’re encouraging visitors to do is to book to come to Antigua for that weekend and just have a really amazing Antiguan culinary escape,” Jeremy said.
