The streets of St John’s came alive with colour, music and youthful energy as hundreds of children took part in the Smalta Junior Carnival Parade, one of the signature events of Antigua Carnival 2026.
The young masqueraders were certainly “Feeling the Rhythm” as the parade got under way at 2:30 p.m., an hour and a half later than its scheduled 1:00 p.m. start. The procession left Parliament Drive, with the first judging point along Queen Elizabeth Highway, before winding its way through the city streets.
The much-anticipated parade had been postponed earlier this week because of inclement weather. Children representing schools, summer camps and carnival groups were thrilled to showcase months of preparation to families, residents and visitors who lined the parade route to cheer them on.
The Smalta Junior Carnival Parade remains one of the most anticipated family events on the Carnival calendar, celebrating the next generation of cultural ambassadors while highlighting the creativity, imagination and artistry that define the nation’s premier festival.
Antigua Carnival 2026 is being celebrated under the theme, “Feel the Rhythm.”
