Academic excellence has earned former Ottos Comprehensive School student Axleigh Akez double recognition from Grant Thornton, after she claimed the accounting firm’s awards for both Accounting and Business.
Akez, the school’s top-performing student in the 2025 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, became the first student to secure both awards, marking another significant achievement in her academic journey.
The awards were presented during a short ceremony at Grant Thornton’s Old Parham Road offices on Friday, June 5, 2026.
Grant Thornton annually recognises two outstanding Ottos Comprehensive School students for their performance in Accounting and Business, while encouraging young people with an interest in the two subject areas to continue pursuing their education.
For Akez, however, exceptional performances across both disciplines resulted in her walking away with the two prizes.
She has since continued along the academic path established during her secondary school years and is now a second-year matriculated student at the Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies (ABCAS), studying within the School of Business and Accounting.
Akez intends to further her education and has expressed a commitment to approaching her studies with determination, perseverance and hard work. She has also attributed her accomplishments and opportunities to her faith in Jehovah God.
Her latest success has been warmly celebrated by family members, relatives, friends and other loved ones, who have expressed pride in her progress and remain committed to supporting her as she works towards her future goals.
Grant Thornton has meanwhile been commended for maintaining its annual awards programme at Ottos Comprehensive School.
The initiative provides recognition and encouragement to students demonstrating promise in Accounting and Business, while highlighting the contribution private-sector organisations can make to education and youth development.
Akez’s double success not only adds to her growing list of academic accomplishments but also provides encouragement to other students at Ottos Comprehensive School to pursue excellence in their chosen areas of study.
