Leeward Islands Beaten Low
The Leeward Islands Under-19 Women’s Team were beaten by the Trinidad & Tobago Under-19 Women’s Team in a low-scoring encounter, going under by eight wickets in their
Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championship here at the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG) on Wednesday.
Winning the toss and opting to bat, Leeward Islands were bowled out for just 50 runs in 16.2 overs. Their best effort with the bat came from Zara Skerritt and Lois George who both made 12. Samara Ramnath and Brianna Harricharan did the damage with the ball for the opponents, claiming four for three in 2.2 overs and three for 15 in three overs respectively.
When their turn at the crease arrived, Amrita Ramtahal led Trinidad and Tobago with the bat, hitting a top score of 17 not out from 30 balls. Harricharan finished on six not out. There was one wicket each for Aaliyah Weekes (1/8) and CQuinya Dasent (1/14) bowling for the Leeward Islands.
In another match contested Wednesday, Barbados Under-19s defeated Jamaica Under-19s by six runs at the Liberta Sports Complex.
Batting first, Barbados posted 102 for eight in their allotted 20 overs with Zaniyah Bruce hitting a top score of 30. Davehjah Brown claimed three wickets for 10 runs in her four overs bowling for the opponents.
Jamaica, in their chase, fell short at 96 for nine in their 20 overs. Adanya Baugh top scored with 14 not out.
There was victory as well for the Windward Islands as they beat Guyana by 15 runs at the CCG.
Electing to bat after winning the toss, Windward Islands posted 93 for three in their 20 overs with Kaela George making 24 not out. Guyana were then restricted to 78 for eight in their allotted 20 overs; their best effort with the bat coming from Sarah Bheir who made 24. There were three wickets each for Giada Small and Ammie Antoine.
