Alcohol Sales – The sale of alcohol is prohibited across Antigua and Barbuda today as the nation observes the National Day of Prayer with activities centred on faith, repentance and national renewal.

Residents and businesses are being reminded that no alcoholic beverages should be sold during the public holiday. Bars, restaurants, supermarkets, shops and other licensed establishments are expected to comply with the restriction.

The measure forms part of today’s solemn national observance, which encourages residents to devote time to prayer, fasting and reflection.

This year’s National Day of Prayer is being held under the theme, “From Repentance to Restoration: Rebuilding Trust in the God of Our Nation.”

Churches, broadcasters and designated prayer sites are participating in activities throughout the day, focusing on four principal areas: repentance; mercy and restoration; hope and justice; and thanksgiving and trust.

The observance will culminate with a national gathering at the Antigua Recreation Grounds from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Religious leaders, worshippers and members of the wider public are expected to attend.

The National Day of Prayer was established as a public holiday to provide a dedicated period for people throughout Antigua and Barbuda to reflect on the country’s spiritual, social and national direction while uniting in collective prayer.
