Two Tropical – Antigua and Barbuda is in for a spell of unsettled weather over the next 24 hours as two tropical waves move across the region, increasing the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms.

Two Tropical Waves Bring

Despite the expected wet conditions, there is no tropical cyclone threat to the twin-island state at this time.

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service, in its 8 a.m. tropical weather update on Thursday, said no tropical cyclone formation is expected across the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea or Gulf of America during the next seven days.

For Antigua and Barbuda, the two tropical waves are expected to maintain a heightened chance of showers and possible isolated thunderstorms through Thursday.

Conditions are forecast to be partly cloudy to cloudy, with the temperature reaching a high of 33°C or 91°F and dropping to around 24°C or 75°F.

Winds will generally come from the east at 7 to 18 mph, while seas are expected to be moderate to locally rough, with waves ranging from six to eight feet.

A change in conditions is expected from Friday as a more stable air mass moves into the area.

Friday is forecast to be fair to partly cloudy with only a slight chance of a brief shower. The temperature is expected to reach 33°C or 91°F.

The weekend should remain generally settled, although patches of shallow moisture moving across the islands on moderate to fresh winds could trigger brief passing showers.

Saturday and Sunday both carry a moderate chance of showers, with daytime temperatures expected to peak at 34°C or 93°F.

While residents may have to contend with periods of rain and possible thunderstorms in the short term, forecasters continue to indicate that Antigua and Barbuda is not currently threatened by a tropical cyclone.
