Government Hires – The Antigua and Barbuda government has hired a consultant to conduct a review of the country’s prison system, with a focus on rehabilitation and reducing repeat offending.
Government Hires Consultant Review
The review will examine operations at His Majesty’s Prison and identify reforms that could better prepare inmates to successfully reintegrate into society after their release.
Reducing recidivism is expected to be a major focus, as authorities seek to address the cycle of offenders leaving prison and later returning to the criminal justice system.
The consultant is expected to assess existing rehabilitation programmes and other aspects of prison operations before making recommendations to the government.
The initiative comes as the government pursues broader reforms to the correctional system, including plans for a new prison facility at Potworks.
