The National Solid Waste Management Authority has launched its Green School Program, taking an environmental education campaign directly to secondary school students across Antigua and Barbuda.
Solid Waste Authority Launches
The initiative officially began Sept. 22 and is targeting Fourth Form students, with the authority’s team visiting schools to discuss plastic waste and ways young people can help reduce the amount of plastic entering the waste stream.
The sessions focus on the importance of reducing plastic use and encourage students to consider how small changes in their everyday habits can contribute to a cleaner environment.
The authority said the program is designed to be interactive, allowing students to share their ideas while learning more about waste reduction, reuse and recycling.
Several schools have already been visited, and the NSWMA said it plans to continue taking the program to additional schools and engaging more students.
The initiative forms part of the authority’s broader public education role. Under Antigua and Barbuda’s solid waste legislation, the NSWMA is responsible for implementing and maintaining public education programs on waste management.
“Together, let’s work toward a cleaner Antigua & Barbuda,” the authority said in announcing the initiative.
