A 21-year-old Hungarian man wanted in his home country over an alleged offence involving children has been found in Antigua and Barbuda.
Informed sources told Observer Media that the man arrived in Antigua on March 22 and was granted permission to remain until June.
His permitted stay expired on June 20 and he was subsequently charged by the Immigration Department with overstaying his time in the country.
According to the source, the man was picked up at sea by the Antigua and Barbuda Coast Guard and handed over to police, who reportedly held him for about a week before transferring him to immigration.
Checks by immigration officials later found that an Interpol alert had been issued for his arrest in Hungary over the allegation.
He appeared in court about two weeks ago on the immigration charge and was remanded until Thursday, October 8, the same day he is expected to be escorted from the country by Hungarian officials.
A communication to local officials dated September 23 from the authorities in Budapest states that two men from that country were scheduled to travel to Antigua on Saturday October 3 to escort the man back to his home country.
