— A joint contingent of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) and the Barbados Police Service has been deployed to support security operations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda.
Barbados Sends Military Police
The Barbados Defence Force confirmed Wednesday that the contingent departed Barbados on Tuesday, October 27, ahead of the international gathering scheduled for November 1-4.
The deployment forms part of regional security cooperation aimed at safeguarding world leaders, delegates and other participants attending the meeting.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the BDF said the deployment reflects the importance of regional cooperation and the commitment of Caribbean security personnel to protecting major international events.
The contingent includes military and police personnel, although the BDF did not specify the number deployed or their individual assignments.
The deployment comes as Antigua and Barbuda strengthens security arrangements ahead of CHOGM, which will bring together Commonwealth leaders and delegations from across the world.
The BDF said its participation also demonstrates its commitment to service, partnership and professionalism in contributing to a safer Caribbean region.
Antigua and Barbuda has already confirmed that regional and international security personnel will work alongside local agencies during CHOGM. The government has described the arrangements as a coordinated operation involving police, defence and other security agencies. ab.gov.ag +1
