Over 1300 to sit grade six national assessment from tomorrow

May 30, 2017
in News

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology will administer the Grade 6 National Assessment to scores of primary school students on Wednesday and Thursday.

For those pupils, the annual evaluation marks the end of their primary education and the commencement of their secondary school years. A total of 1,321 students from public and private institutions have registered for this year’s Grade 6 National Assessment, where students will be assessed in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

Officials within the Measurement and Evaluation Unit of the Ministry of Education have indicated their readiness for the two-day national test. Question papers for English Language and Science will be delivered by supervisors to the various centres on Wednesday, shortly before the 9 A.M. start time and on Thursday for Mathematics and Social Studies.

Following the assessment, teachers will be selected by education officers to mark the various subjects, which will commence next week and last for a fortnight. Marks will then be entered into a database, before an analysis of students’ performances is undertaken and placements made.

According to the Measurement and Evaluation Unit, an announcement on the results of the Grade 6 National Assessment is expected by Monday 3rd July, 2017.

Grades 2 and 4 National Assessments were held on May 29th and 30th, 2017. Students were tested in literacy and numeracy (Language Arts, Mathematics), to determine their levels of competencies as it relates to the curriculum.
