“Embarrassing” newspaper notice about LIAT in Guyana

June 24, 2017
in News

The Eugene F. Correia International Airport in Guyana says LIAT customers will no longer enjoy the convenience of paying airport taxes when purchasing a ticket.

The airport charges an Airport Service Fee which is about US$ 17 per adult and about US$12 for children.

However, in a notice published in several Guyana newspapers, the airport says it has not been getting the money from LIAT. warns that the measure will take effect from July 1, 2017.

As such authorities have put the cash-strapped carrier’s customers on notice that effect July 1, 2017, the airport will be “reverting” to collecting the fee “directly at the airport for LIAT passengers.”

Guyana’s second largest airport said the measure has become necessary based on LIAT’s “inability to pay the service fee to the airport.”

The notice has gone viral at a time when LIAT’s financial challenge is at an all time low.

The company recently asked pilots for a salary deferral which they rejected.

Pilots later took industrial action to demand overdue pay increases.

LIAT did not respond to our email for a response at the time this article was published.
