A local clergyman says divine intervention is needed to curb the state of rising crime in the twin-island state.

Bishop Charlesworth Browne told ABS that the key to solving the island’s crime situation lies in God.

He says, “the answer in any case, in anything like this, is always to have God in control, so more and more we need to have God in control.”

Browne who also operates a halfway house for boys also suggests that educational empowerment is essential in keeping people away from crime.

The clergyman suggests that education can help young people know and understand the law.

In recent weeks, there have been serious criminal activities across Antigua & Barbuda ranging from car theft, shootings, and robberies.

The Royal Antigua and Barbuda Police Force say they are addressing the recent spike in criminal activity plaguing the country.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Martin Rodney says the police are taking all illegal activities seriously.
