Health Minister Molwyn Joseph will hold a press conference tomorrow to address the current Eddy Prince/David Prince saga, including the fundraising drive by Eddie Prince, allegedly on behalf of his one-year old son, David.
Late last week, Eddy Prince made a public appeal for US$5,000 which he claims is to cover medical and other expenses for his son.
In August of 2016, David Prince was injured in a tragic house fire in Jennings. His mother, Gayan Williams and older brother Jayden Prince were badly burnt in the fire and were airlifted for medical treatment in Guadeloupe and Martinique. Unfortunately, both died.
In a statement today the Health Ministry said the Government of Antigua and Barbuda met the transportation costs – to and from the French territories – as well as the medical expenses of Gayan and Jayden. The funeral costs for mother and son were provided by the family of Gayan Williams.
Lauralyn Williams, the aunt of the late Gayan Williams is questioning the motive of Eddy Prince’s current Go Fund Me drive. Visibly upset as she spoke to Ministry of Health officials last week, she accused Eddy Prince of shutting Gayan’s family out of young David’s life and of taking him out of the country without notifying her family.
“It hurts,” she said, “for him to be going around begging for $5,000.00 dollars as if Gayan had nobody, as if David doesn’t have anybody. We have a large family and plans were being put in place to get David the required surgery when his father took him out of the country without telling us.”
The Health Minister and other leading health officials will also speak on other issues pertaining to the Ministry.
