Sir Robin to pay ex-wife millions owed, court rules

MP Sir Robin Yearwood will have to fork-up in excess of £3,000,000 to his ex-wife Christiana Yearwood, after the Court of Appeal upheld a High Court ruling in his wife’s favour.

Attorney Dr David Dorsette, who represented the minister’s ex-wife, was quoted on Observer Media saying that Sir Robin had lost an appeal, where he tried to stop his ex-wife from registering the settlement that would force him to pay millions.

According to Dr Dorsette, Sir Robin reasoned that there was “no rules of court made, with respect to the registration of an order, in what he said was family proceedings.”

“The court of England made the order and Ms Yearwood asked for the order to be registered in Antigua so that it could be enforced. Mr Yearwood resisted the application for the registration of the order and judgement of the English Court,” the attorney explained.

He said nothing much had been done by Sir Robin to obey the U.K ruling, except a payment made in 2009, of less than £1,000,000 of the total £4,121,037.

Now that the court in Antigua has handed down its ruling, Dr Dorsette said the order is liable to be enforced and the court will decide the way forward, if Sir Robin does not comply with the UK ruling.

According to documents filed in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) in 2010, Christiana Yearwood and Robin Kensworth Montgomery Yearwood were married to each other in England in July 1981 and are the parents of two adult children.

In February 2008, Christina petitioned for divorce in the Family Division of the High Court of Justice in England and a Decree Nisi dissolving the marriage was granted in August 2008.
