CXC Uses Digital Exams to Keep January Tests on Track After Flight Disruptions

January 8, 2026
in News, Sport

The Caribbean Examinations Council said its digital assessment system allowed candidates affected by recent flight cancellations linked to the Venezuelan situation to continue sitting January 2026 examinations without interruption.

Registrar and Chief Executive Officer Wayne Wesley told a press conference in Kingston on Wednesday that CXC activated its e-assessment and hybrid e-assessment platforms to accommodate impacted candidates during the current exam period.

Wesley said the move reflects the council’s broader modernization push, with plans to deliver all examinations digitally within the next three to five years.

More than 10,000 candidates across the region are writing January examinations, which began Monday and run through January 29, using digital and hybrid formats. Thursday’s schedule included English B Paper Two and Human and Social Biology Paper Two.

After the January sitting, CXC will turn its focus to the May–June examinations, when more than 100,000 candidates are expected to register over 600,000 subject entries at the CSEC and CAPE levels.

“The work at CXC never stops,” Wesley said, adding that the council has provided certification services for more than 50 years as a treaty organization of CARICOM and remains confident in the regional and international value of its qualifications.
