PM Browne Calls for Education, Lifelong Learning and Peaceful Communities in 2026

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has urged Antiguans and Barbudans to place education, continuous learning and peaceful coexistence at the center of national life as the country moves through 2026.

In his New Year’s Address to the nation, Browne said the foundation of future progress rests on a population that is skilled, adaptable and committed to self-improvement, beginning with the country’s youth.

He encouraged young people to actively pursue academic qualifications or technical skills, describing education and training as essential for preparing the next generation to participate fully in the workforce and in national development.

“Let every young person pursue a skill or a degree,” Browne said.

The prime minister extended the call beyond youth, urging adults to view learning as a lifelong responsibility rather than a phase limited to early life. He said productivity and competitiveness depend on citizens of all ages committing to personal growth and contribution.

“Let every adult commit to learning, improving, and contributing to nation building,” Browne said, adding that national progress should not be limited by political affiliation, age or social background.

Browne also linked education and personal discipline to social stability, calling on the country to reject crime and violence in favor of unity and peace. He said destructive behavior weakens communities and undermines the collective effort required to build a resilient society.

“If we choose peace, love and unity over crime and violence,” he said, “then no force on earth can hold our nation back.”

The prime minister said national development requires more than economic policy, pointing instead to shared values, discipline and cooperation as key drivers of sustainable progress.

He urged citizens to approach 2026 with purpose and responsibility, saying education, lifelong learning and social cohesion remain critical to Antigua and Barbuda’s future.
