The government says work is under way to address safety concerns at the site known as the “Big Gutter”, following reports from members of the community.
Senator Michael Joseph said the issue had been brought to the government’s attention and that action was being taken “as quickly as possible”.
As part of the response, the Director of the Ministry of Works, Collis King, carried out a site visit to assess the extent of the problem and determine the repairs required.
According to the government, all concrete slabs at the site will be replaced. Cleanup and preparatory work has already started and is expected to continue into the coming week.
Mr Joseph said feedback from residents played an important role in highlighting problems on the ground, allowing authorities to respond more effectively when concerns are raised in a constructive manner.
He added that the government’s priority was to deliver practical solutions and improve public safety through stronger and more reliable infrastructure.
