Residents Feel the Chill as Cooler-Than-Usual Nights Set In Across Antigua and Barbuda

December 29, 2025
in News, Sport

Residents across Antigua and Barbuda are remarking on what many describe as unusually “cold” conditions, as nighttime temperatures dip below seasonal norms during the island’s traditional cool period.

Local weather observers report that overnight lows in recent days have fallen into the low 20s Celsius, with some inland and eastern communities experiencing even cooler conditions.

While still mild by international standards, the drop has prompted widespread discussion on social media, where residents have shared stories of reaching for sweaters, closing windows, and adjusting nightly routines.

Meteorological updates circulating locally describe the conditions as “cold by Antigua standards,” noting that the islands typically see their coolest temperatures between December and March.

During this period, reduced humidity, brisk trade winds, and occasional northerly airflow can combine to produce cooler nights and early mornings.

Weather commentators say the contrast is what makes the change more noticeable.

Antigua and Barbuda’s average daytime temperatures remain in the mid-to-high 20s Celsius year-round, leaving residents more sensitive to even modest drops, particularly after sunset.

Online weather pages and broadcast forecasts have fueled the conversation, with many residents expressing surprise at how cool the nights feel compared with recent years.

Some communities, especially in more exposed or elevated areas, have reported temperatures that feel significantly cooler due to steady winds.

Meteorologists stress that the conditions are not unusual climatologically and do not signal extreme weather, but rather reflect the normal winter pattern for the northeastern Caribbean.

The cooler spell is expected to persist intermittently through the coming weeks, with forecasters advising residents to remain mindful of stronger nighttime winds and lower temperatures, especially for young children and the elderly.
