K-9 Unit Expanded with Four New Dogs as Police Boost Detection Capabilities

December 24, 2025
in News, Sport

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda expanded its K-9 Unit with the addition of four new dogs in 2025, strengthening its operational capacity as part of broader efforts to modernize policing and improve crime detection.

The expansion was highlighted by Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers during his Christmas and end-of-year address to officers this week, where he outlined key developments across the Force over the past year.

The additional K-9 resources form part of a wider package of tactical and investigative upgrades introduced in response to increasingly complex security threats, including illegal firearms, narcotics trafficking, and transnational crime.

Police officials say the enhanced K-9 Unit has supported targeted operations alongside the Narcotics Department and other law-enforcement partners, contributing to major seizures of drugs, firearms, and ammunition during the year.

The expansion also aligns with the Force’s emphasis on data-driven and proactive policing, aimed at improving response times, detection rates, and overall public safety.

Commissioner Jeffers said the upgrades to specialized units, including the K-9 Unit, are intended to ensure officers are properly equipped and prepared to meet rising demands, particularly as the country looks ahead to heightened security responsibilities in 2026.
