The BBC has issued an apology to Catherine, Princess of Wales, after mistakenly referring to her by her maiden name, “Kate Middleton,” in a recent broadcast.
The oversight occurred during a news segment discussing the royal family. Viewers quickly pointed out the error on social media, prompting the broadcaster to respond.
A spokesperson for the BBC acknowledged the mistake, saying the organization “regrets the lapse” and reaffirmed its commitment to using the correct titles when covering members of the royal family.
Catherine has officially been known as the Princess of Wales since 2022, following the accession of King Charles III, when Prince William became the Prince of Wales.
The use of “Kate Middleton” remains common among the public due to longstanding familiarity, but broadcasters and news organizations typically adhere to formal titles.
