Parents Get Financial Relief as Education Director Sets Vision for Term Two

January 7, 2026
in News, Sport

Pointe FM- Parents across Antigua and Barbuda are receiving financial relief as students return to classrooms for the start of Term Two.

Director of Education Clare Browne has confirmed that more than EC$1 million is being reimbursed to parents and guardians who had already paid Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) fees for examinations scheduled for May and June 2026.

The refunds follow a commitment made by Prime Minister Gaston Browne during his December budget presentation, under which the government will assume responsibility for CXC examination fees going forward. Officials say the measure is intended to ease financial pressure on families and ensure no student is excluded from sitting key examinations because of cost.

Beyond the financial support, the Director of Education has outlined priorities for the remainder of the school year, calling for a shared commitment among educators, students and parents to support academic success.

Addressing students, Mr Browne encouraged renewed focus following the Christmas break, stressing that learning is a gradual process built on patience, persistence and daily effort. He urged students to develop strong character alongside academic ability, and assured them of continued support from teachers and school leaders.

Parents and guardians were also reminded of their role in reinforcing discipline, responsibility and good study habits at home, while maintaining regular communication with schools.

According to the Director, strong collaboration between homes and classrooms remains central to student achievement, as the new term begins with expectations of a productive and successful period for the education system.
