Kelvin Simon Embarks on MBA Journey
St. Mary’s South MP Kelvin “Shugy” Simon has marked the start of the new academic year with a personal milestone, beginning a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus.
Extending back-to-school wishes to students across the constituency, Simon reflected on the importance of lifelong learning. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, he said education should be embraced as a continuous journey of growth for students, teachers, parents, and the wider community.
Simon also took the opportunity to highlight the influence of former political leader Harold Lovell, describing him as both a mentor and an academic whose international work continues to inspire. He noted Lovell’s teaching role at the University of Toronto as proof that Antiguan and Barbudan talent can compete on the global stage.
“I’m proud to stand alongside him in shaping a future where education, innovation, and leadership open doors for the next generation,” Simon said.
The MP’s decision to pursue higher studies comes as UWI Five Islands positions itself as a hub for advanced education in the Eastern Caribbean, offering programmes designed to strengthen leadership and professional capacity in the region.
