in News, Sport

The Rotary Club of Antigua has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to national development by donating a total of 35 laptops to two vital institutions: the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) and the Youth Intervention Centre (YIC). The initiative forms part of the Club’s Education Through Technology (ETT) Project, which is designed to bridge the digital divide and enhance access to technology across the nation.

The presentation ceremony highlighted Rotary’s ongoing mission to support youth development, education, and national capacity building.

15 Laptops to Youth Intervention Centre

Assistant Superintendent of Police Raffie Browneexpressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Antigua for identifying the Youth Intervention Centre as a priority recipient.

“This Centre is one of the most vital departments in youth development and rehabilitation, because the youths are our future,” ASP Browne remarked.

Providing insight into the Centre’s work, Corporal of Police Audie Browne explained that the YIC supports schools and suspended students by offering life skills and guidance.
“When a child is suspended from school, they spend time at the Centre where they are taught important lessons such as bullying awareness, coping with peer pressure, peaceful conflict resolution, and anger management,” he said.

The 15 laptops were officially presented by Past President Paul Ryan, Service Projects Director, and President Elisa Graham of the Rotary Club of Antigua. Also in attendance were Sergeant of Police Shenette Morton and Constable of Police Rashidi Merrifield.

20 Laptops to Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force

In addition, President Elisa Graham presented 20 laptops to the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force to enhance training and administrative programs. Accepting on behalf of the ABDF was Lt. Col. Eugene Phillip, who extended appreciation on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General Telbert Benjamin, and the officers of the Force.

“Not only will these computers go a long way in strengthening our training programmes, but they will also enhance our administrative capacity. The timing is especially meaningful as this donation coincides with the ABDF’s week of activities,” Lt. Col. Phillip noted.

The Rotary Club of Antigua remains dedicated to its mission of Service Above Self, spearheading initiatives that empower youth, strengthen institutions, and foster community development. Through projects such as the Education Through Technology (ETT) Project, the Club continues to create lasting impact across Antigua and Barbuda.
