ABWU to Host 58th Annual Delegates Conference

September 1, 2025
in News, Sport

The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) will host its 58th Annual Delegates Conference on September 21–22, 2025, under the theme “Technology and Solidarity: Navigating the New Workplace.”

This year’s Conference will bring together almost 300 delegates, observers, and union officials to examine how the rapid pace of technological change is transforming the modern workplace, and to reaffirm the collective power of solidarity in ensuring that workers remain protected, empowered, and prepared for the future.

General Secretary, Sen. David Massiah, explained the significance of the theme:

“Technology is reshaping how we work, from automation and artificial intelligence to new forms of communication and collaboration. While these changes present tremendous opportunities, they also raise challenges for workers, particularly around job security and organising.”

He added that the Union’s mission is to keep workers at the centre of this transformation:

“This Conference is about equipping our members to embrace innovation without losing sight of the core principle that has always sustained us—solidarity. Together, we can ensure that technology works for people, not against them.”

The Annual Delegates Conference remains a significant event on the Union’s calendar, as it provides a forum for members to review the Union’s progress, assess challenges, and set the agenda for the future. The ABWU underscores the importance of members’ participation both as delegates and observers, as their voices and perspectives are vital in shaping the priorities of the Union.

The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union invites all members to take part in the 58th Annual Delegates Conference and continue building a stronger movement, united in purpose and prepared for the future of work.
