ABWU to Host Men’s Conference Focused on Health and Well-Being

The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) will mark International Men’s Day 2025 with a powerful one-day conference under the theme “Healthy Men, Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Society.”

The event takes place on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, and will bring together a wide-cross section of men from workplaces all across the island for a program focused on mental, physical, and personal wellbeing. The initiative forms part of the ABWU’s ongoing commitment to supporting holistic development and promoting health and balance among working men.

The conference will feature a dynamic line-up of speakers and facilitators, including Clinical Psychologist Feona Charles-Richards, Medical Practitioner Dr. Dwayne Thwaites and Personal Care Professional Octavia Nicholas. Through engaging sessions, attendees will explore topics such as emotional resilience, preventive healthcare, self-care, and personal grooming — all aimed at empowering men to live healthier, more confident lives.

“This year’s Men’s Conference is about celebrating men while also creating space for honest conversations about health, identity, and balance,” said ABWU General Secretary, Sen. David Massiah. “We want to remind our brothers that taking care of themselves, physically and mentally, is an act of strength, and it benefits not only them, but their families, workplaces, and communities.”

The program will include opportunities for reflection, networking, and practical learning. Participants will also receive wellness resources and have access to expert guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The ABWU views this year’s Men’s Conference as an important opportunity to honour the contributions of men in the world of work while encouraging open dialogue on the issues that affect their well-being. By fostering awareness and empowerment, the Union continues to promote a culture of balance, respect, and care within the workplace and the wider community.
