An American businesswoman who was critically injured in a violent assault in Antigua and Barbuda has died.
Karen Johansson was attacked while conducting horseback riding tours on Runaway Beach and suffered severe head injuries.
Her family said she sustained a catastrophic traumatic brain injury and was placed on life support with no prospect of recovery.
In a statement, her sister said doctors advised that Johansson was unable to breathe independently and would not regain neurological function.
She added that Johansson was a registered organ donor and that her organs would be used to help others.
Police are questioning Johansson’s former partner in connection with the attack, and sources say charges could be laid. Investigators believe the suspect is a man with whom Johansson had recently ended a relationship.
