Officials from the Ministries of Sports and Education, alongside secondary school principals and sports coordinators, met at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium for the first Sports-Schools Collaboration Meeting.
“Any organization has to be clear about the path it wants to take. We hope this meeting will foster strong collaboration for the upliftment of school sports,” he said.
Sports Minister Daryll Matthew stressed that the primary goal of school sports is grassroots athlete development. He added that stronger cooperation between the Ministry and schools is essential to improving programmes.
The meeting also highlighted recent appointments, including Dr Greene and sports media personality Joel Rayne as Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Sports. Both are expected to bring expertise to raise standards for student athletes.
Officials identified key areas for improvement, including upgrading facilities, introducing school sports guidelines, expanding scholarship opportunities, and securing greater support from parents, faculty, communities, and the private sector.
