Antigua & Barbuda Trades and Labour Union Celebrates 87 Years of Service

The Antigua & Barbuda Trades and Labour Union (AT&LU) proudly announces its 87th Anniversary, set to take place on 16th January 16, 2026. This momentous occasion will honour the enduring legacy the Union and its commitment to the working class of Antigua and Barbuda.

On Sunday, 11th January, 2026, a Service of Thanksgiving was held at St. Philip’s Anglican Church under the stewardship of Rev. Pauline Ramsey-Burns.

In his prepared remarks, Comrade President Bernard de Nully expressed gratitude for the longevity of the institution, stating, “It is not by coincidence that the AT&LU will reach this milestone; our union’s existence truly reflects a divine purpose.” He emphasized the importance of unity and labour, affirming, “The Unity of Labour is the Salvation of our Country.”

The Union for 2026 will focus on renewal and youth development and empowerment as the youth arm of the AT&LU will be revived. “We owe it to the great 39ers who sacrificed for us, so that we may enjoy their fruits in 2026,” de Nully remarked.

In addition, the union will launch a new website and app to enhance communication with its members and to document the history of trade unionism in our Twin Island Nation. “Our mission is forever blessed, and the unity between the AT&LU and ABLP will guide us toward a prosperous future,” he added.

A moment of silence was observed at the Church Service to honour the late Comrade Rufus Lewis and Comrade Harold Carter, whose legacies continue to inspire the Union’s efforts. “Their legacy and determination are why the AT&LU has stood strong for 87 years,” three years shy of 90 and counting, said de Nully.

Plans are already in the pipeline to have “Emancipation House” rehabilitated and completed this year.

“As we embark on this new chapter, I pray for the transformation of our members’ spirits and strength, as we move forward in faith,” de Nully concluded.

Join us in celebrating 87 years of dedication, commitment, and sacrifice, as we honour our beloved Antigua & Barbuda Trades and Labour Union.
