Autopsy reveals cause of death of man whose burial was stopped

July 24, 2017
in News

An autopsy has apparently ruled out foul play in the case of Lancelot Riley whose burial was stopped by the court.

Sources close to the family tell Antigua News Room that the autopsy showed that Riley died of a brain aneurysm.

A brain (cerebral) aneurysm is a bulging, weak area in the wall of an artery that supplies blood to the brain. In most cases, a brain aneurysm causes no symptoms and goes unnoticed. In rare cases, the brain aneurysm ruptures, releasing blood into the skull and causing a stroke.

The June 22 burial was stopped when a court order was issued after some family members became concerned that the funeral proceedings were advancing too quickly.

The former Ministry of Telecommunications employee died aged 59 on June 7, 2017, after apparently falling and hitting his head.

A new funeral date has not been determined because some paper work still needs to be completed.
