Beyond Booby Alley, 100 Housing Units Planned for Bolans and Barbuda

Beyond Booby Alley, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced plans for an additional 100 condominium units in Bolans and Barbuda, alongside the continuation of the Home Advancement Programme for the Poor and Indigent (HAPPI), which focuses on rebuilding and upgrading homes for the most vulnerable.

In his address marking Antigua and Barbuda’s 44th Independence anniversary, Browne said these initiatives reflect his administration’s ongoing commitment to social justice and empowerment through home ownership.

He reaffirmed that the Booby Alley Social Housing Project—a partnership with the People’s Republic of China—is progressing steadily and will deliver 150 two-bedroom condominium homes to residents of one of St. John’s oldest communities.

Calling the project “one of the most socially impactful undertakings in our history,” Browne said it will transform the area into a model of modern living and symbolize the nation’s compassion and commitment to upliftment.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged that public-sector housing output has slowed due to a shortage of skilled workers but said the government is contracting tradespeople from abroad to accelerate completion. He encouraged young Antiguans and Barbudans to pursue training and fill those roles themselves.

“With skills in hand, the next wave of homes can be built not partially, but exclusively by you—putting money in your pockets and your feet firmly on the ladder of security,” Browne said.

He added that private-sector home construction remains strong, reflecting renewed public confidence and growing access to financing.

According to Browne, every home built under these initiatives is “a monument to dignity and belonging,” ensuring that every Antiguan and Barbudan has a stake and a future in their country.
