The Calvin Ayre Foundation (CAF) has provided critical support to Antiguan taxi driver, Kimroy Williams, helping him to access urgent overseas medical care and return home safely after a successful surgery in Trinidad.
Williams had been hospitalised at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre with a severe spinal condition that left him in significant pain and unable to walk.
His doctors advised that an urgent procedure was needed, which was not available locally.
The Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) covered the full cost of Williams’ surgery and, due to the urgency of his distress, the Calvin Ayre Foundation and CalvinAir came on board to support this medical effort.
The emergency flight was donated by CalvinAir’s new fixed-wing aircraft, which transported him to Trinidad on November 1st for immediate surgery.
While in Trinidad, CAF provided accommodation for Mr. Williams and his father, Hickford, for several weeks. The Foundation later funded a commercial flight to return to Antigua once he was cleared to travel.
Williams returned home early last week and has now begun what will be a lengthy rehabilitation journey.
In expressing his gratitude, Williams shared: “If it wasn’t for Calvin Ayre, I would’ve been crippled.
I just want to say thanks to everybody, and Jamilla, I can’t thank you enough. And I must say thanks to Ms. Tannis from MBS because she really helped me.”
His father, Hickford, added: “I just want to say thanks to Mr. Calvin Ayre for what he has done for Mr. Williams, we appreciate it so much.”
Manager of the Calvin Ayre Foundation, Jamilla Kirwan, noted: “We are incredibly relieved that Kimroy received the care he needed in time, and grateful we could assist in getting him to Trinidad and back home safely.
Our priority is always to step in during moments when families feel overwhelmed, and we wish him strength as he continues his recovery.”
This support reflects the Calvin Ayre Foundation’s ongoing commitment to helping individuals in Antigua and Barbuda access urgent care, recover with dignity, and navigate challenging circumstances with the assistance they need.
