Court puts stop to burial of man hours before he’s due to be laid to rest

June 22, 2017
in News

The Magistrates Court has stopped Barnes Funeral Home and family members from proceeding with the burial of 59-year-old Lancelot Riley.

All preparations had already been made for the send off of the former Ministry of Telecommunications employee.

But a sudden and turn of events mean that the deceased was not buried today as announced.

The court order was issued after some family members became concerned that the funeral proceedings were advancing too quickly.

No autopsy was conducted on the body but now one will have to be conducted before the deceased is finally laid to rest.

Riley died in the hospital on June 7, 2017, after reportedly falling in his yard and hitting his head.

Family members proceeded with a memorial service today and a new burial date is expected to be announced later.

Police are investigating the matter.

According to reports, lawmen want to know why the proper procedure was not followed in reporting the death to the police especially as the circumstances appeared unnatural.
