The Development Control Authority (DCA) this afternoon removed a tent belonging to opposition MP Jamale Pringle at Morris Bay, in an incident that heightened political and community tensions over the ongoing debate on beach control and vending regulations.
The structure was dismantled while Mr Pringle was in Parliament participating in the 2026 Budget debate. Police officers accompanied DCA staff as they carried out the demolition, which drew the attention of residents and supporters in the area.
According to witnesses, DCA personnel arrived at the beachfront site shortly after midday and proceeded to take down the tent without incident. Word of the removal spread quickly, prompting several opposition parliamentarians to travel to Morris Bay, where they engaged with residents gathered at the scene.
Local supporters voiced frustration and concern, with some warning that the action had left them fearful about the future of their own small structures and vending stalls along the beach. Many claimed the demolition signalled a broader crackdown that could affect livelihoods in an already sensitive economic climate.
Neither the DCA nor the police have yet issued public statements on the decision to remove the structure.
