Governor General and Lady Williams pay traditional Christmas visit to Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre

Their Excellencies, Sir Rodney and Lady Williams visited the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) on December 23rd, where the Governor General delivered his annual speech to doctors and nurses present in the South Courtyard.

Also delivering remarks and reports at the event were Hon. Molwyn Joseph, Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment ; Dr. Shivon Belle Jarvis, Medical Director; and Dr. Joycelyn Walter-Thomas, Member of the Board of SLBMC

. The programme was attended by other members of the hospital board, as well as Senator  Hon. Michael Joseph  – Minister of State in the Ministry of Health, Optometrist Raenor Sharpe who thrilled the gathering with his rendering of Christmas carols, and Event Chair Mr. Danley Phillip, Director of Administration.

The opening prayer was conducted by Sis. Anne Marie Isaac, Departmental Nurse Manager, and the building was beautifully decorated in the true spirit of the Christmas season.

In addition to more in-depth commentary, the Governor General mentioned that “we commend the historic strengthening of the Emergency Department, notably the addition of the first Paediatric Emergency Medicine Specialist in the hospital’s history.

This achievement ensures that young children in medical crisis can receive specialist emergency care right here at home, marking a significant national milestone.”

Their Excellencies toured the maternity ward, and distributed gifts  sponsored by the Halo Foundation to ten newborn babies.  All of the newborns were boys. Gifts were also given to some of the nurses and the children on the paediatric ward.
