Granny’s sentencing pushed back

September 29, 2017
in News

The grandmother who was convicted of manslaughter in July will have to wait a week longer to learn her fate.

Sixty-eight-year-old Millicent Cornwall-Roberts was scheduled to be sentenced today for causing the death of her 18-year-old granddaughter Jael Thomas.

However, the sentencing hearing was adjourned to next Friday to give the probation officer more time to prepare a pre-sentence report.

Thomas died following a severe beating at the hands of her grandmother in September of 2014.

At trial, the elderly woman admitted to beating the teenager after she snuck out the house and returned early the next morning with two boys.

A pathologist testified Thomas bled to death from an injury she received on her left foot.
