Greene announced as keynote speaker for PLP anniversary gala in Bermuda

SOURCE ROYAL GAZETTE:E.P. Chet Greene, the Antigua & Barbuda Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs

A change to the keynote speaker has been announced for the Progressive Labour Party’s gala on Saturday.

Terrance Drew, the Prime Minister of St Kitts & Nevis, was set to speak at the PLP’s 62nd Anniversary Black Tie Gala, a party spokeswoman said, but he was no longer able to attend because of the impact of Hurricane Melissa.

The spokeswoman explained that Mr Drew, the incoming chair of Caricom, has been called to represent the region at the upcoming EU-CELAC meeting in Columbia.

E.P. Chet Greene, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs, of Antigua & Barbuda, will instead serve as the keynote speaker for the event.

Dawn Simmons, the PLP chairwoman, said: “We know many were looking forward to hearing from Prime Minister Drew, especially members of the Kittitian & Nevisian community here in Bermuda.

“We understand their disappointment and extend our thanks for their continued support.

“We hope that this change will not deter anyone from joining us for what promises to be a wonderful evening of celebration.”

Ms Simmons thanked Mr Greene for agreeing to step in.

She said: “His presence as a respected regional leader will bring a valuable perspective and inspiration as we reflect on our theme, ‘Leading for the Next Generation’.

“We look forward to welcoming the Caribbean communities represented in Bermuda, along with our local supporters, to share in this evening of unity and pride.”

Attendees will also hear messages from Geoffrey Hanley, the Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Political Leader of St Kitts & Nevis, along with David Burt.

Mr Burt said that this year’s gala will be particularly meaningful for him as it will be his final one as Premier.

He added: “While we are disappointed that Mr Drew cannot join us, he has an important responsibility to represent the Caribbean region at the EU-CELAC meeting as the incoming chair of Caricom.”

The gala will be held at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, starting at 6pm with cocktails, followed by dinner and the official programme from 7pm.

Limited tickets priced at $150 for general admission and $250 for patron admission are available atgpass.bm.
