Despite hopes of an improved performance on Tuesday evening, the Antigua and Barbuda Benna Boys’ winless streak continued as they fell 4-1 to the Guyana Golden Jaguars at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium.
With three previous victories over the Benna Boys, Guyana wasted no time asserting their superiority. In the 10th minute, Osaze De Rosario’s brilliant footwork on the left flank set up Omari Glasgow, who powered home from close range to beat goalkeeper Shohoi Dorsett – 1-0.
Ten minutes later, De Rosario was brought down in the box after another surging run. Despite protests from Antigua and Barbuda, with Dorsett receiving a yellow card for complaining, Glasgow coolly converted the penalty into the right corner – 2-0.
The Benna Boys had a chance to respond before halftime when Amir Delay won a penalty, but his tame effort was easily saved by Guyana keeper Qullan Roberts.
In the second half Veteran midfielder Quinton Griffith converted a 61st-minute penalty to provide a consolation goal for Antigua and Barbuda to pull one back for the hosts as the scoreline read 2-1.
But the visitors showed no respite for the home side. De Rosario turned from provider to scorer in the 65th minute, executing an audacious chip over Dorsett to make it 3-0 and only six minutes later, Stephen Duke-McKenna capitalized on a rebound after his initial shot hit the post, tapping in Guyana’s fourth.
The loss has now extended the Antigua and Barbuda Benna Boys winless campaign to 0-16 across all competitions with their last victory over the Bahamas in which they won 4-1 on the 14th October, 2023.
