Junior calypso monarch to represent Antigua and Barbuda at regional competition

This year’s junior calypso competition winner will go on to represent Antigua and Barbuda in the inaugural Caribbean Junior Calypso Monarch competition.

The show is carded for the Usain Bolt complex in Barbados on August 20th, 2017.

This information was released by Ann-Marie Burke, Media and Communications Specialist in an exclusive interview with Antigua News Room on Thursday.

Burke says; “on August 3rd, 2017, when Antigua and Barbuda officially crowns its Junior calypso monarch, that young calypsonian automatically qualifies to represent the country at the inaugural Caribbean Jr. Monarch competition.”

She says a representative of the Caribbean junior calypso monarch competition will be in Antigua to officially sign on and welcome that young contestant to the big show.

UNICEF is an official partner of the Caribbean Junior Calypso Competition and this year’s winner will become a UNICEF advocate.

Burke says “of note is that one of our major partners is UNICEF and out of this partnership, contestants are officially signed on as UNICEF advocates when they win their induvial competitions.”

Burke told ANR that a total of twelve countries will be competing for the title of regional junior calypso monarch but so far only Montserrat, Dominica, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenadines and St. Kitts and Nevis have held their competitions.

The other five countries to hold their competitions in the coming weeks are Barbados, Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada and Anguilla.
