The UWI Seismic Research Centre has reported a magnitude 4.1 earthquake that occurred this afternoon near St. Kitts and Nevis.
According to the Centre, the tremor struck at approximately 1:39 p.m. local time (17:39 UTC) at a depth of 10 kilometres. The quake’s epicentre was located at latitude 17.94° North and longitude 62.57° West.
Preliminary data indicate the earthquake was approximately 73 kilometres north-northeast of Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, 122 kilometres northwest of St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, and 133 kilometres north-northwest of Brades, Montserrat.
There have been no reports of damage or injuries associated with the event.
The UWI Seismic Research Centre continues to monitor the region for aftershocks or additional seismic activity.
