Men’s Day Forum Calls for Stronger Support Systems for Men and Boys

November 24, 2025
in News, Sport

Men and boys from across Antigua and Barbuda joined the Department of Gender Affairs on Friday for its annual International Men’s Day Forum, a half-day event focused on mental health, masculinity, and family roles under the theme “Supporting Men and Boys – Fostering Integrity, Compassion, and Resilience.”

The forum, held at Beachlimerz on Fort James as part of global International Men’s Day activities, opened with an interactive “Vote with Your Feet” exercise that encouraged open discussion and eased participants into the day’s conversations.

Sydney Retemyer led the first session on health and mental wellness, urging men to break their silence on emotional struggles and access available support. Colin John Jenkins followed with a presentation on modern masculinity, examining how role models and values such as respect and accountability shape men’s behaviour. Roland Moore closed with a discussion on fatherhood, calling for emotionally present and supportive male caregivers.

Participants shared experiences and raised concerns about stigma, communication barriers, and the need for stronger support systems for men and boys. Project Officer Ashlea Ambris said the forum created “a safe, honest space” for learning and connection, noting that strengthening male well-being benefits families and communities.

The Department of Gender Affairs thanked partners and reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing programmes that address the needs of men and boys.
